c.1800 Antique late 18th century/ early 19th century (unknown edition, somewhere between 1791 to 1834), lovely black and white botanical copperplate engraving illustration from the French ENCYCLOPEDIE METHODIQUE, (published in France between around 1791-1834) with supplements, revised editions, and translations. "Histoire Naturelle, Botanique" was a section of the Encyclopédie, with plates provided by Robert Bénard (1734 in Paris – 1777) a French engraver. The signatures "Benard Direx" and "Benard Direxit" indicate the work of the atelier of engravers he directed for many years.
