In 1918 Interborough Rapid Transit Company began issuing twin poster series — The Subway Sun and The Elevated Express — for display in its cars.
Fred G. Cooper, an illustrator and type designer is often mistaken for creating Cooper Black. Cooper, a founding member of the AIGA, was known for his “cartoonettes” for Life Magazine and his visual identity work for New York Edison (ConEd). He also created posters for the War Department and Westinghouse.
