We have here a fascinating bit of ephemera: an original vintage page from Scientific American June 29, 1912 advertising the Hamburg American Line Cruises in Skyland by Zeppelin Airships. In 1912, the Hamburg America Line (HAPAG) was involved with airship travel, primarily through its association with the Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft (DELAG), the world's first airline. Uncle Sam with a shovel references the ongoing construction of the Panama Canal (later opened for commercial traffic on August 15, 1914) with a view of the canal in the vignette below. The listing reads: "Around the World Two Cruises From: -New York, October 19, 1912 -San Francisco, Feb. 6, 1913 -110 Days—$650 up -All Necessary Expenses Included -Weekly to Jamaica and Panama Canal $75 and $115"
